WHAT IS THE COOL BUTTON?

The word cool is defined as “an admired aesthetic of attitude, behavior,

comportment, appearance and style, influenced by and a product of the Zeitgeist (spirit of the age or the spirit of the time). Also, according to the definition of “cool”, because of the varied and changing connotations of cool, as well as its subjective nature, the word has no single meaning. It has associations of composure and self-control and often is used as an expression of admiration or approval.

We are at the beginning of a social media revolution in which social buying is the future of e-commerce. New ideas spark new interests and new ways for us to communicate with each other. As an instrument of social buying, the Cool Button is a “Social Thermometer” of popular culture and of what users deem to be cool. In other words, the Cool Button is not telling people what is cool, but rather giving you as the user a digital too to deem what you think is cool.

We are also aiming to define the word theoretically in which things “contain” cool. In other words, while as an adjective something is inherently cool. But as a noun, things that actually ‘contain” cool that is dictated your own personal preferences. The idea of “cool” in global Pop Culture is a universal, ubiquitous concept that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones.
